I fight this conclusion every single day and it just gets harder and harder

The number of politicians and political figures (staff, speechwriters, judges) who grew up in or currently belong to ultraconservative religious sects (or cults really) is eye opening. Clearly “gain political power” is an animating force behind many of these groups.
