I’m glad lots of people are coming down on Trump’s behavior but I doubt anybody who is already in his camp was turned off by any of it. It’s exactly what they wanted to see. HOPEFULLY there are still people out there on the fence who were grossed out by Trump, but I don’t exactly think Biden’s performance was that grea

I fight this conclusion every single day and it just gets harder and harder

The number of politicians and political figures (staff, speechwriters, judges) who grew up in or currently belong to ultraconservative religious sects (or cults really) is eye opening. Clearly “gain political power” is an animating force behind many of these groups.

I wouldn’t say “of course.” But it’s possible.

I don’t think there’s another answer here other than just let people vote how they’re going to vote.

Okay FINE I admit to having some sympathy for Celine Dion in this moment. I totally get the “you go out of your mind” explanation. She is just not a “cool” person and was not prepared for what Aretha Franklin served. Not an excuse or anything but I get it.

Clearly there is something up with the management if they think they can pull this off with twice the amount of space rented and half the number of attendees, unless they got a major break on the rent and are planning on jacking up ticket prices.

It’s a tough thing. Being depressed means EVERYTHING is painful. Yes his life is way better than, like, a mentally ill homeless person’s life. But the depression is still there. The WORST thing you can say to a depressed person is “but everything is great for you! you don’t have any real problems!”

Yeah fuck this working mom, huh

When I saw it, it was definitely Josh Gad

Back in, like, 2006 I saw him on Broadway in the 20th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. It was really good, and he was good. I had no reason to dislike him at that point, I didn’t know who he was. Later I saw him pop up on TV and I thought, hmm, his career has gone in a weird direction. But back in 2006, in an

It’s rarely just motivation that stands between a panhandler and a job.

I kind of identify with this letter writer. My life is not quite as awesome but in general, things are great and moving consistently in the right direction. Yet I struggle with similar insecurities. Sometimes the solution is just hearing a message like the one you wrote, over and over again, from a lot of different

No, the spirit of “college graduate” is that you need specific qualifications. The spirit of “recent college graduate” is that you need to be 23 or 24.

As much as I support 99% of the protest movement that’s been happening in the past 4 months, and as much as I don’t think “top down” is the best way to organize spontaneous outpourings, I still wish things could coalesce around a thought leader or three. So much of the change that occured in the 60s came about because

I have a theory that drag culture is a huge part of this. Drag queens and “transsexuals” were getting their bodies altered like this long before it really became fashionable for women.

I really can’t get past the thought that you could probably get wool-covered, sheep-shaped benches and footstools at Restoration Hardware or something

Don’t forget, if you take the $1m payout you’re gonna be paying about $450K or more in taxes. My fantasies evidently have a built-in accountant.

The article implies that she was already struggling with the mortgage, and it evidently took 8 years for the balance to get that big AFTER the makeover. This woman just had financial troubles, the makeover doesn’t seem to have added anything extra.

Sure, but do you pull out all the stops to make sure the 2 year old has the exact same experience as the 8 year old who cares much more about the trappings?
