Who do you mean? It seems to me that the SMALL handful of moderate republicans who are sincerely opposed to Trumpism left the republican party.

“It’s only a game if you’re rich enough to be insulated from the consequences.”
For what it’s worth, I have always assumed there is a deeper pool in Melania than people give her credit for. I think she is always being very careful. She isn’t just an empty dress. I don’t think she’s some kind of strategic genius, but she’s trying to play her cards right amid a generally fucked up situation. That’s…
Is that really the tone of some of the conversation? It would never occur to me to blame the family for “ruining” men they marry. If I blame them for anything, it’s for having bad taste and entangling themselves with men who are garbage because it reflects attention back on themselves.
Well she personally wasn’t directly working on those things, I bet. She is now personally working on something that the GOP is structurally/constitutionally unable to accomplish and now the failure reflects more directly on her. THAT is the line in the sand.
I think it really comes down to the weird power dynamics in academia. It’s extremely hierarchical, it’s very difficult to figure out how to gain “currency” within the hierarchy, and these things play out in all sorts of messed up ways.
To be fair lying is generally only illegal if you’re in court under oath
It’s valid to focus on the decisions that person has made and the values that those decisions point to. Nobody forced this person into this highly paying job that demands insane trade offs. This is pressure people put on themselves to “win” at capitalism. This person made a choice. (I’m just thankful I am financially…
I work in philanthropy, one step removed from the nonprofit service providers whose leaders—the people I mainly deal with—are usually one step removed from the actual staff proving the services, who of course are one step removed from the people experiencing crisis or need.
I have been beating this drum to no avail since I was a wee starred commenter in the before times.
I don’t really agree here. Most people can’t name their own congress member. It is not a surprise that most people don’t have a strictly accurate idea of how many people died in the holocaust. I think that “millions” or “ten million” are basically acceptable answers. “One million” would probably be a clear…
I went to a school with no Greek system, not really on purpose, and holy shit do I feel like I dodged a bullet
Climate change plus bad forest management, but like the ACTUAL kind of forest management, not this “rake your leaves” bullshit. The management practices that accumulate over many decades and are pushed by the federal government and states alike.
I think a big part of this comes down to who the likely voters are.
At first I thought the dress was actually tweed, which may be the only thing that might make the look passable.
I really lose it when it comes to people stocking their bathrooms with huge fluffy towels that just move the water around your body, rather than drying you off, and then themselves *never* dry. Half the time towels like that also smell really weird (clean but not pleasant) and the smell never really goes away.
I got a tie, or a nice pair of shoes, or a jacket - I can’t remember exactly - the day before one of my first job interviews in NYC. It’s a vague memory in some ways but the experience of being in Century 21 is still really vivid.
Much like the bro-ier versions of libertarianism. It’s all the same people and a lot of the same underlying ideas.
This is killing me
Not gonna lie . . . the most appropriate thing to do about a first world problem is post on TikTok (or whatever) about it
