Not sure how widespread it is at this point, but it’s been an issue as late as 2017 - they were apparently requiring invasive physical exams for trans people at one location. They’re at pains now to say they don’t discriminate on this basis, after having a rash of these stories come out.

I suspect that John Oliver is way less rich, and that fewer people have died buried in coal and stone or had their towns obliterated to get him there. Certainly, he’s bankrupted fewer critics, and spent less money for the right to do all those things.
