A fair number of them would genuinely rather these kids go hungry than pay the 0.2 cents on the dollar that it would cost to feed them.

Everyone but the people slightly above those kids’ parents economically and people who are just racist enough to assume all poor people are brown or black is aware. Whether that matters to them is a different story.

It’s way more effective to continue it as dogwhistling - that allows his people to continue to demonize criticism of the statements as racist - “It’s not racist, he never explicitly mentioned race! Just the addled Left, at it again, weaponizing hate.” The white supremacists and average racists (and everyone else, but

Republicans didn’t perform exceptionally well in the Senate, given how few seats they had that were up. I forget the specific numbers, but they had something like 1/3 of the seats in contention. Holding ground there would have been a victory - what happened was something approaching a tie.

Dems this time are supposedly leaning on healthcare and worker protections (e.g. the minimum wage), but leadership and media coverage keep walking into the rakes as fast as Republicans are able to toss them out. Unfortunately, they’re letting the pace be set for them, but I also don’t know that there’s a viable option

Unfortunately, while that’s something that’s showing signs of change, there’s a 30 year old playbook supported by a lot of money and inertia that’s slowing it down. Best bet at this point is to be vocal in contacting your reps, vote in primaries, and offer money or time to your progressive candidates in primaries.

People get it. Every “I’m not racist, but” racist I know has hated Sharpton for decades. This is pretty much an in-group thing at this point.

That runway was brutal the first (half-dozen or so) time(s) until you got the guns down-pat. Middle-school me took a while to learn from mistakes.

From what I’ve seen, I think she may be an assistant. Which is an important, and valuable, and perfectly fine job. Just that she’s an awful garbage person who happens to have that job.

You know how it is, you’re in there to pick up some floss, the next thing you know you’ve got $50 worth of stuff, and then you realize that if you self-checkout, there’s not a person handling all those items, so you go get some self-care supplies, all your make-up, ten bottles of wine, six pairs of shoes, some

I know a lot of people who have anxiety pretty bad, and I have a touch of it myself, and I’ve never seen it force anyone to drop a racial slur because someone’s talking in a restaurant. Not one time in my 25-30 years of remembered life.

I recall reading that they were having a LOT of trouble hiring people who could recognize their asshole from their elbow with greater than 60% accuracy. That there wasn’t someone carefully, intentionally looking at things for a public appearance isn’t surprising. What brainpower they are able to muster is likely

Wannabe Nazi Sebastian Gorka wants to talk about how someone is racist? Literal fascist Sebastian Gorka thinks someone should apologize for being racist? Proud wearer of Nazi collaborator medals Sebastian Gorka is pushing a deceptively edited propaganda video to undermine a woman of color in an elected position?

Do you know that we have to change the belts on the high-speed machines ourselves now? With our fumbly, adult fingers??? /s

Obviously, it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy, but it has just occurred to me that there’s really not a way this ends well for him the more time he spends in jail.

I can’t think Pelosi or Schumer have had time to keep up their fiddling practice the last few years, but it does seem like they’re thinking of breaking them out. No need to worry about the arsonists.

It always annoys me when people I know who lean right claim there are no moderates that can win, or “the Democrats won’t nominate a moderate.” But it’s because their idea of “moderate” and “middle ground” is Reagan.

I’m honestly surprised at the number of people in Democratic leadership still expecting that maybe Lucy’s not gonna yank that football away at the last minute, and they’ll decide that maybe they can work with others occasionally, the way they did prior to 1996, and to a much lesser extent from 1996-2007.

I’ve also seen a lot of “You can’t prove it was racist,” usually leaning on whether someone explicitly used a slur or said outright they think black people are X. Which I guess goes to that intent argument you’re pointing to, and turns it into a situation where the burden is on showing (without any doubt) that the

That complete shift in tone right up near the top is really something.
