She was awesome. She used to go to other WAVES funerals whenever she saw them, whether she knew the woman or not. She would even place a second flag on the gravestones when the Boy Scouts/ROTC/VA or whomever remembered. Cause fuck them, WAVES get two flags.

She did it for as long as I can remember. Even on years the VA/ROTC/Boy Scouts remembered, she still placed those flags. No WAVE went without a flag (or two) in Central Jersey if she could help it.

My grandmother was a Navy WAVE during WWII. She spent every Memorial Day putting flags on the gravestones of other WAVES in the area because other veteran organizations sometimes “forgot.”
