Totally agree.

The article as a whole is low-brow click bait. I hate when Av club publishes stuff like this. Pop culture sites should never be putting anyone's taste down. In a review, sure, it is fine to blast anything you don't like - but not in this sort of piece. And masking it with humor only makes it more annoying.

One other point: the scene when Nikki and Heather are on the beach, falling in love, and all that. We get the sweet reverse shot of the beach front where there is this factory in the middle of the shot, just totally taking the piss out of the hollywood cliched beach scene.

There is similar subject matter, but this is a far cry from Ellis. His stuff is much more nihilist and focused on recreating and hammering home one singular perspective.

Great article, though I'm surprised you didn't highlight the long take when we first enter the club Nikki frequents. I love it because we think we're getting a POV shot from him, but it's actually not; instead, it loops around and meets him head on, seemingly setting up the ending.
