hey, leave my streamers posts alone ! lol but in all seriousness yeah what’s happening to kotaku is seriously a bummer and i’m sorry to all of you, you dedicated readers who’ve come to the site for years - decades even - only to watch capitalist vultures pick apart the slow rotting corpse

I’m sad to hear this news, but given the business practices that WotC has been exhibiting over the last several years, I don’t guess I’m 100% surprised. Best of luck to Larian in whatever they do next. I’ll be watching for it.

Seriously, the world didn’t end when Vine shut down. The way people are talking about this, you’d think they’d rather give up food and water than lose a short-form video app for preserving your dumbest life moments for all time.

Thanks for pointing that out! I was a little cautious with reading too much into motivations in what will likely be in the third part of this trilogy as it could change. But I agree, that’s an important nuance here.

I don’t understand. Is it impossible to post or repost short form vertical videos on other platforms? Does TikTok own any sort of patents on this?

Oh well, we can just use Threads/Reels/Shorts/Schmeckle/Clemen/etc.

I’m still personally sad about ICQ, actually.

But you’re not wrong. If TikTok went away, it’d be fine over the medium term.

If tiktok closed for other reasons, we’d have an alternative and everyone would have forgotten tiktok in about 2 weeks. I don’t wanna be the “I’ve been on the internet since the 90s” guy but... wait.... I am that guy. Anyone care about myspace, icq, webcrawler? Let it die and be replaced by something even more stupid

Game respects game.

This is correct. TikTok is not in any way special. It is very much just a Vine rip-off. A replacement will eventually take hold if it is banned (though, that’s highly unlikely).

Without sounding like a millennial with a lawn complex (fat chance), from years of experience, this is not the impending apocalypse zoomers...

What is up with the Red Rangers being shitty people? We already had one drown an elderly couple by tieing them to the anchor of their boat, another stabbed his roommate with a sword multiple times, and now this BS

And that in my mind is the real tragedy here. Cuz the thing about PD2 is that... THERE WAS A GOOD GAME IN THERE! Buried deep, under tons of shitty mechanics, lackluster design and of course, the live service aspect. I always felt if they could break out of their own confining framework, that it could’ve been the next

Yeah... the problems started with PD2. PayDay was fun! Played it with friends quite a lot. We still reference some of the dialog as we’re working through our second BG3 playthrough. So, it was natural that we’d play PD2. And it was fine. At first.

I really loved playing Payday 2 Solo even though it was obviously a very different and difficult experience, so it’s absence in 3 pretty much nixed any interest I had in it.

“Thank you for your feedback. Our team will take it into consideration” is really all that needs to be said, if anything.

This is absolutely the case and quite frankly the game is so good that who fucking cares if the whining losers leave. It’s not gonna stop it from being successful.

I feel like with this and Larian Studios receiving toxicity, it’s almost as if this doesn’t really happen because of “bad games,” but because gamers are entitled Karens who don’t recognize the human cost of the games they played.

As far as I’m concerned, all developer interactions with gamers should just be a double mid

The dev totally didn’t say it the right way but he has a point. The fucking whiners about a balance patch in this game are insufferable. Its been out for like two weeks. Its not like they took away some weapon after two years. Of course they are gonna have to fix some shit once the players get their hands on it.

I’m generally with you but not in the case of Vanillaware games. They use the technique correctly. It isn’t a “development shortcut” it’s a technique that can be used poorly or well depending on implementation. Most indie/mobile games I see using it are awful to look at because the art style is generally cheap or
