Survivor and Invisible Monsters I both enjoy a great deal. But even I got to the point pretty quickly with Survivor of, “Yes. You did a lot of research into how to get out various stains. We get it.” Also, it’s probably been 15 years since I read either, so... don’t hold me to my recommendations.

I saw that interview when it aired, and was surprised by how hilarious he was. It immediately became one of my favorites that I would go back to.

It was likely a choice made to ease people into what ended up getting pretty dark for the time. Much like how the first few episodes of Bojack Horseman give you *no* indication of how intense it’s going to get, but gets people involved who maybe wouldn’t normally give such a thing a chance.
