Lots of snark in the replies, but I will add one thing. If you’re someone who works a lot better when people aren’t bothering you, the last two weeks of the year are great for getting stuff done. I preferred to take my time off in the spring and summer.

Man, I miss the written form of these.

I’ll add that dog owners should do the same. As in, ask permission before you introduce* your dog to mine.

We taught our daughter to always ask anyone with a dog if she can pet it. It’s not only respectful to the dog owner, but even some labs or other known “good” dogs can be defensive and skittish and could bite. It is safer for the dog, for the dog’s handler and for the person approaching to just ask every time.

I am a college professor, and it seems as though I spend more time teaching grammar and writing skills than the actual content of my courses.  I got into this profession because I really enjoyed helping students think through complex ideas, but now, much of my time is spent explaining things like subject-verb

This alone is almost reason enough to promote learning a second language. I would say that most of the English grammar I learned came from learning Spanish. In part, because to learn a second language not as a native tongue you need to learn their grammar and thus are introduced to concepts you might have just picked

I’m tired of people telling me to stop taking pictures to enjoy things. The fact of the matter is I enjoy taking pictures and I enjoy seeing the pictures later and remembering whatever event it is. If anything it enhances the time for me and I don’t seem to have problems remembering my time at these events (even if I

Correct, that’s is what anyone should be doing. Let me try again to get to my point... is there a better solution out there for historical fact validation?

First of all, gluten is delicious and ordinarily glutenous things made without gluten are generally awful. Brioche cinnamon rolls and chewy pizza dough are fantastic things that just don’t work without gluten.

Chicagoans looking at this list are thinking, “Pfft, yeah, whatever.”

I cannot stress how much people need to at attention the the first point and I’m glad you lead with that.

If you want everything to match, charcoal is going to be a much better choice than black for both the jacket and pants - plus it just looks better. Grey pants are the pivotal piece of a flexible work wardrobe.

Or that the study was about something more interesting and complex, and the reporters grabbed on to the footnote that made for a funny headline, then proceeded to take the headline completely seriously and treat it as the entire point of the study.

On a somewhat related note, often when you see news like “EXPERIMENT FINDS THAT BABIES ARE CUTE” or some other obvious conclusion, the point is often not that an obvious thing was “found”, more that it was confirmed experimentally in a scientific way, or that some discovery was made as to why.

Nah, you don’t need a DSLR. I’m sure plenty of people taking the challenge just use their smartphones. A couple of the challenges do have specific instructions for exposure or lens settings that your point and shoot might not have, but you can join most of them. This definitely falls under the “your best camera is the

As a hobby, I sometime work as a background extra in movies. In order to be cast, I have to e-mail my info and picture. For the longest time, I was never happy with how my headshot looked - it just looked different (in a bad way) from how I saw myself in the mirror. My nose, in particular, looked bigger, and I don’t
