That’s a rationalization that applies to you. These cars do make it out on track. Go to any HPDE event, especially one run by a BMW/Audi/Porsche club, and you’ll see a bunch of new street cars out on track. This includes everything from the GTI to the new M3 to the new 991. These cars are super capable. If anything,

Yeah if you look at the new 991.2 it has that wheel also, but with a red start button or something hanging off of it.

I’m going to withhold judgement until I test drive the new C63. It’s premature to dismiss it because you hate other automatic transmissions. I was not blown away with the tranny on the C400, but the AWD system might have been what I was judging.

It is called The Lincoln Motor Company. So much easier to say.

How is this different than a Chevy Traverse? Most value engineered car ever - it literally only has 1 power seat to save money.

CarMax won’t buy cars that have been modified. So if you have a BMW with aftermarket wheels or you changed the springs, they won’t touch it.

The GT3 is the only one I’d feel comfortable going 9/10th’s in. Those high horsepower Ferraris can really snap on you if you’re getting into the throttle and RPM. Just bouncing off the rev limiter can upset the chassis enough to make you spin. That’s how wild those cars are. The radio is silly because you can’t hear

Heh. I have a base Boxster from 2015. Ditching the OEM wheels and tires for HRE flow form and Michelin PSS was $5k. Upgrading the brakes to modestly sized Brembos is $8k all in. You can get a great set of custom valved dampers and custom spring rates for $5k. Exhaust for $3k, even though it’s just like one short pipe

I mean, I could see having something like this Golf with terrible brakes and aero the car isn’t fast enough to use as a daily driver. It’s not a track car how it is. Then you can decide whether you have a faster track car like a Porsche, or a dirt cheap track car like the Miata you mentioned. In no situation do you

Either he just finished modding it and he’s bored of it. Or he knows it’s going to require some expensive repairs soon. Or it just had some expensive repairs and he wants to cut his losses, not be holding the grenade next time it blows up. Modding introduces maintenance debt.

The early PDK supposedly wasn’t that great. If it fails you’re out $10k quick.

There are a few with mods and high mileage that are over $60k, but a respectable stock 2008 997 turbo from a dealership with low miles is still $80k. And it’s an 8 year old car. If it’s manual you’re going to need a clutch and that’s going to set you back $4k. Tires are $4k. These cost a quite a bit more to operate

The new AMG cars have the nice Recaro Sportster type seats. They’re $2590 for the nice leather, and $2500 for the seats.

The Golf R won’t feel like an AWD car, just like a TT-RS really doesn’t. These cars just have enough horsepower to spin the front wheels in low traction conditions. AWD just sends a little bit rear. You notice it in the sport package spec for the RS3, which has like a 255 front tire and a 235 rear.

It is nice, and you know it’s wind tunnel tested to zero out the lift and even create 10 pounds of downforce at top speed, with minimal contribution to drag.

Nicest wheel outside of a GT3. Just like the S5 has the nicest leather outside of a Porsche. It’s the best thing about having a VW group car.

The only good feature of a Miata is it’s cheap to run. But once you’re past intermediate track driving it’s the slowest thing out there. At least on the west coast where people go to the road course with a lot of horsepower and burn a lot of cash on expendables like big brakes, sticky 80 treadwear 275 width tires, $15

This is like a $3000 option package over a base GTI. You can get a really great Cayman for $60k. It’s pretty easy to spend $95 on a GT4. That’s a $35,000 difference.

The weak part of this Golf and all Golfs including the R is the brakes are totally inadequate. The rears are a solid rotor. And the fronts are a vented rotor with a junky cast sliding caliper. It needs a true 4 piston brake kit, front, and at least a vented rotor at the rear. I’m thinking like a 330mm rotor front and

This is probably very easy to drive compared to a 997 Cup car. It’s amazing that the V10 engine is that close to the production model in specific output.
