There’s good and bad episodic and serial. Long form became a revelation because it went further than old trek did. But bad serial is one drawn out shitty movie like the Netflix marvel shows. Rick and Morty strikes a balance between episodic and the long storyline.

The end is important. Too many good shows run too long. How long should a joke be? Long enough for the punchline to deliver. Jokes are just another kind of story. You don’t start a joke without knowing the punchline. Too many tv stories forget this and go on past all justification.
