Part of the problem with this show is that they keep adding characters, so the writers end up ignoring huge chunks of the cast for episodes. Nightwing’s in all the promo art and has only had one line the entire season.
I wonder how much of this is that animated films are either G (explicitly for kids), PG (implicitly kids, but usually all-ages) or the rare hard R (juvenile humor for adults).

One of the novels explained the in-universe reason* Geordi got the implants was because Generations was the second time a hostile force used his VISOR to infiltrate the Enterprise and it was a security risk. The choice was take a boring, low-security assignment or remain on the Enterprise but get the implants.
