I’m not sure about the modern definition of “compact car”, but the modern Civic is the same size as a 1990's Accord. That GR rear seat image looks tight on the legroom. I’d feel bad putting my kids back there, while the Civic would work for road trips. I wish they offered the heated seats in the Civic Si.

It is okay to like this body style. If you remove the comparison to the smaller, curvier, air-cooled models preceding it, it’s not a bad look. I personally think it looks a little slab-sided without any flaring of the rear wheel wells, but it’s a decent, clean design.
