Saying we have the technology to get off of oil right now is also a myth. There aren’t enough raw materials in the world to make enough batteries to store and regulate current power usage, which is only growing as more nations develop. Without new battery technologies a full transition to renewables is not possible.

While they call it a “dyno” in this case, it very well could have simply been a big roller that would give the front wheels somewhere to spin, without actually measuring the output from those wheels. The EPA is more interested in what’s coming out of the tailpipe, rather than the power hitting the road.

I think it’s pretty clear that VW is in violation of that specific part of the Clean Air Act, which is essentially saying you cannot design a vehicle to operate differently under real-world driving conditions than it does during the EPA testing cycle.
