I should add that these things are only relevant if you need to finance the balance.  As others have mentioned, if you are going to be writing a check for the balance you can just send it to the bank and they’ll mail you the title.  You’ll pay your taxes and registration at the DMV.

1. The dealership is buying the car from the bank and reselling it to you. If they never inspected the car and it needs brakes or tires, or whatever you can go back and sue them for selling you an unsafe car so the inspection is a way to avoid that.
