My Radeon HD 5770 worked out fantastically for me for many, many years despite it being a budget card at the time (cost me a bit over $100). Never had any issues with it, and it ran games up to a few years ago on high/ultra graphics settings without any trouble.

Generally they use older models (much of their money spent occurs in PC cafe's, so their computers are usually a few years old), but those models are subject to the same issues in terms of performance.

PC isn't that niche though, especially on the global market. It actually generates considerably more revenue on a global scale than consoles do. That's because you have places like South Korea and China where gaming is massive and consoles don't exist (yet). So all their gaming gets done on mobile devices and PC.
