I totally agree! I'd love to see more variety in video games staring human player characters. Generic gruff white dude is boring after the 1623498712639861234 time.

Those stats take into account social/mobile gamers, where women dramatically outnumber men. Amongst "core" gamers on PC/console, men are still the very big majority.
You do not have a choice who you play in co-op. Everyone sees themselves as Arno, he is literally the only playable character in the entire game according to Ubisoft. And the co-op is a story based co-op from what they've said, so it doesn't make sense for the player to play anyone other than Arno.
I agree! But when_it_makes_sense. If it's a historically based story where a white dude makes the most sense as the player character, then make the player character a white dude. But if it's some random fantasy/sci-fi game, please do put in more minority and female characters.
And assassins will choose the person most likely to be successful at a given mission. That means if the mission is in 19th century France, they're sure as hell not choosing a black man or Asian man who will stick out like a sore thumb (yes, there were blacks and Asians in 19th century France, but they were uncommon).…
I can't even comprehend that. I find myself no less "immersed" (which I still think is a load of bunk marketing term) in games where I play as a non-white or non-male character. I don't need to play a white dude to "identify" with the character.
The latter. You see yourself as Arno, but see others as "other generic looking dude". There is no option to play as anyone other than Arno.
There's not? They don't use any historically accurate characters? No cities or locations? No weapons? No clothes? No vernacular? No historically accurate events? Are you for fucking real?
She killed one person. One fucking person. It was a famous murder, yes, but she hardly engaged in the kind of action oriented activities that the characters in AC games do.
Bitching about it in a game where a non-white dude protagonist wouldn't make sense is stupid, though. A white dude being an action heavy assassin in 19th century France makes fucking sense. Having a minority doesn't make sense, as they'd attract a ton of attention. Having a woman doesn't make sense, as they'd be…
My argument is that all people, regardless of minority or majority, should be treated as equals. I'm an egalitarian.
If you're a female gamer playing a female character, but everyone is treating you as male, how is that any more immersive?
Why should one group be treated as superior to another? As far as I'm concerned, all groups are equal, I'm an egalitarian. That would mean that women would be treated the same as men, who are treated the same as African folks, who are treated the same as agender folks etc . etc.
It wouldn't change the atmosphere at all though. They'd have to rewrite and rerecord a ton of the dialogue, not to mention cutscenes, to make it realistic to how people spoke and reacted to women in 19th century France.
Was she a swashbuckling assassin who ran around Paris and regularly engaged in armed combat in the streets?
Actually would be *They'd, but who cares.
Fuck yeah, that sounds awesome.
Not enough bro's in this article.
I'm an egalitarian, I view everyone as deserving of the same level of respect and worth. I don't care how big or small of a group you "belong" to.
People want more diversity, but they won't buy games because of diversity. They buy games that are good. Case in point, ACIII sold well with having a Native American main character. Remember Me did not sell well with its female half black character. Why? Because ACIII was pretty good and part of a popular franchise,…
