You always have to play as Arno because that's who the character is. Contextually, people in 19th century France would respond differently to a woman or a minority, so they'd have to rewrite dialogue to accommodate that without making it feel historically weird.

So rather than refute points and continue to have some sort of dialogue (despite your earlier, unprovoked insults), you go straight to more insults?

Wait, what other AC's can you play as someone other than the main protagonist? I wasn't aware they had character selection options.

I agree, the stupid "excuse" was not a great one to use publicly.

Actually, I've been looking to pick up AC:Liberation for a while now, just waiting for a sale. Only AC game I actually have any interested in after getting partway through the first game and being bored to tears.

No, I'm advocating for common sense. They want one character to be the player character in the game. Historically, it makes the most sense for a 19th century assassin in France to be a white man if it's an action game (and it is). If this was a more stealth/non-action game, a female assassin would be far better suited

Don't turn the fact that the game isn't spectacular into some statement of how sexist Ubisoft is. They wanted to gamble on a Vita game, but at the time the Vita wasn't selling well (still isn't). That means you drop down production budgets, just like the Killzone and Uncharted games that were pretty shit on Vita.

But here's the thing. Only one character in the world is represented, Arno. There is no other playable character in the game, just him.

I'm a bit with your daughter, I prefer to play as women whenever given the choice as well, though I can't say the lack of choice has necessarily lessened my interest in games much.

If they made more games like that, absolutely! I'm always interested in playing games with a female point of view, because it's different from my own male point of view. Big fan of female protagonists in games, so bring on more so we can equal out the genders in the sausagefest known as the male dominated leads.

Well played, sir.

Where did I ever personally ask for that? Because I haven't, and don't want it to be. Generic straight white dudes are boring. But in a historically based game? If it makes sense (in this game it does) for a straight white dude to be the main character, then he should be. If you want to create a game in the 19th

If it makes sense within the game, sure! I wouldn't expect a black man to be the protagonist of a historical game set in ancient China, nor would I expect a woman to be a samurai in a historical Japanese game.

Did said female assassin run along building tops? Did she engage in sword fights? Was she engaged in any of the typical action heavy types of activities that the game will focus around?

It's a co-op multiplayer game where everyone plays as Arno. There is no competitive multiplayer. The only character you can ever play as is Arno, nobody else.

There is no competitive multiplayer in AC: Unity, only story based co-op. In the story-based co-op, everyone sees themself as Arno. They see others as "some dude", but they are Arno. So you have 4 Arno's in a co-op game.

You're right, I totally forgot AC: Black Flag existed. My bad. But the point still stands, two of their three previous games featured non-white folks in it, and one was non-male. Their first game featured a Middle Eastern Muslim.

From what I've read, the co-op is narritively based. Sure you can dick around after you finish the story and do side missions, but the core is that everyone is playing Arno. You see yourself as Arno, while others see you as another dude. So nobody gets to play anyone other than Arno in the game.

This excuse makes sense, their prior one was questionable. They want players to play as Arno, and everyone will play as Arno, that's who the story is written for. Had they just said that from the start, this would be a non-issue. But they did their usual of saying something stupid and getting everyone riled up.

That would be pretty fantastic! And yeah, Roger actually is one of the first things that pops into my head when I think pansexual. He's really a great character.
