Great write-up.  I just heard of it not long ago and watched the whole season: MAN I LOVE IT!  I'm so sad that Firefly and Middleman were cut short.  Two great shows only lived one season.  I wish they'd do a movie or revisit the idea with the original actors before it's too late.
