Fun as it would be to see a private carrier being used, it looks like the deck would only be about double the size of OCISLY. Stick that where the current OCISLY waits to catch the side boosters, regular barge further downrange for the center core of a Heavy?

Tyranny of the rocket equation.

Sure, Heavy is mostly just three F9S1s together. You’re missing the implication of that though... The side boosters will provide the majority of the thrust while they’re attached, letting the center core idle along at far lower throttle, conserving it’s fuel for post-separation. The side stages can release under

I like Amazon. More than I should - they’re just convenient and I live in the boonies so I prefer them as a lifeline over Walmart. And I love more companies fighting for space access. But often Bezos’ business practices irritate the hell out of me. :\

It’s all about fuel margins. They’ve done a lot of work to squeeze more fuel in the rocket (stretching tanks, lowering fuel temperature to increase density), so they can lift the big communications payloads all the way up to geosynchronous orbit - but it still takes most of the stage one fuel just getting the second

I think it’s likely that Falcon Heavy will require a high number of barge landings for it’s center core - Sending that one back to land every time would just eat too big a chunk of the rocket’s top end performance. Side boosters are very likely to RTLS. Whatever BFR becomes (the platform for lifting the Mars Colonial

True enough. I’m a fan of /s notation for sarcasm, it’s simple and clear for most - and it’ll prompt a “Huh?” from someone, allowing explanation.

I think you stopped reading my comment after the word “detail.” I acknowledge that it has investigative value. It doesn’t have value in the article, or as a snippy remark in the comments. I was also replying to a comment that tried to make it out like it was evidence of a crime. My remark fit the context, unlike your

Seems it fell a bit flat.

Can we not do crap like that? How many phones he has is a minor detail, it really didn’t even belong in the coverage of the crime. The fact that he has multiple phones matters only to the investigators who need to know so they can check all his communications for evidence of the alleged crimes.

Except that’s sorta how Freetime Unlimited works on Amazon Fire, their big premier kid service... And it sucks, bigtime. Uninstall and space management is hidden behind parental controls so you can’t even teach the kids to be thrifty with space. And there’s just an endless scroll of available apps, installed at a tap.

Meanwhile, I straighten the two pillows out at the top of the bed and toss the comforter back over top of everything and call it a day - more than that seems like a good bit of wasted effort for the most minor of .. Not improvement even, but slightly different look?

On the other hand I’m sitting on a 40v mower and string trimmer, three batteries.. And I’ll be damned if I can see much at all that looks like a deal on compatible tools in the links here.

Or keep the emergency flashlight charged in your car at all times alongside your cell phone charger, and in an emergency you’ve got an escape tool, a light, and an extra emergency charge for your phone if you have to leave the vehicle (or the vehicle can’t provide power anymore).

Besides the extensive list of great reasons weapons gave you... Parachutes are much more weight limited in thinner atmospheres like Mars. For example, the Curiosity rover at approximately 2000lbs, was too heavy for a parachute descent. They used a 50ft chute to slow it from supersonic speeds before the powered

In college, bright sunny spring day, light traffic on a 3 lane highway. Multi-mile straightaway even. Cop in the middle lane going a shade under the speed limit. Me, tired of waiting behind him.. Set cruise control for 65mph on the dot.. Glance over as I ever so slowly pass to see him red faced and screaming at me,

I could blame nearly every travel mug spill I’ve ever had on (my clumsiness and) big ugly handles catching on things or just offering a big lever to multiply the effort of my fumble fingers. Went with a double wall, handleless ceramic mug for $10 from my local convenience chain and I haven’t had a regret in years.

Thanks, yep - airbox is the spot to worry about. Guess that’s a little bit of better fording ability over the average vehicle with the intake pipe a foot or two lower in that fender.

I’m curious - does the XJ airbox actually intake air *at* the airbox? I’ve never seen an airbox do that.. Every one I’ve encountered has some piping tucked underneath so it can draw in air from down in the fender area. So.. I’m a bit confused by all the worry about water at the airbox itself.

Meaning? Incredibly happy with my 6P.
