This is the best thing that has been written on Jalopnik since David and Torch left. Well done.

They did the Baja a few times as well, even if I don’t think they won.
Well, VW raced and won the Dakar 3 times, but that doesn’t mean much in North America.
The passage of time alone guarantees that the new Scout will be way better than the original in every single way.
The only way this would fit within the payload of an F150 is if you get the extremely rare payload package - and probably a regular cab 2WD version. That kind of weight is really a 3/4 ton+ job.
I do, too, but it makes sense. It’s the only way they can justify developing and offering a variant that will likely sell in the teens or single-digits.
Or hi/lo gearbox on the new Trail 125!
As I’ve said, I’ve never been a FCA fan, but I’ve become a customer. A lot of your stigma about Dodge Ram Reliability is outdated.
Stellantis spent $2.4B on credits for the EU and US while netting $100B in revenue and $15B in profits. Those credits aren’t exactly small money, but it may well just be considered the cost of doing business until they have more BEVs/hybrids to better offset the emissions.
The emissions compliance issue is the big one here. The emissions penalties for high-performance ICE vehicles ramp up really dramatically in the next few years, to the point where it soon won’t make sense to make them at all.
From the GM full-size BOF-ers to the RAV4 to the MX-5 Miata, a number of cars in the past had a lap vent, which was located under the steering wheel and aimed at the driver’s lap. The most recent vehicle I’ve seen with one was the Land Rover LR4/Disco 4, which was last sold in 2016.
I miss turning on my high beams and windshield washers with my left foot.
If I’m honest, I’m sure anything’s possible with a wrap, but the Mod Top. Or frankly just any choice of exterior or interior colour outside of greyscale.
Replaceable head units. Can’t wait to find out what it costs to replace one of these integrated iPads like screens attached to your dash that has every function routed through it.
Forget corner vent windows, while it’s fun to have 70 mph air blasting in your face, those aren’t coming back. But how about actual full-size windows? You know, the kind where we can comfortably drive with our elbow on top of the door while still having our left hand at the 9 o’clock position on the wheel. Large…
standardized user replaceble stereo/media/navigation units
Yeah we need some sort of standard headlight for the LED era. They could still do wonky unnecessary shit with the shape of the headlight covers, just make the bulbs like 3 standard shapes; round, square, and standard length strips.
Cheap and easily replaceable round headlights.
In my day, it was Sparkomatic and Kraco from the local Kmart.
I miss when you could just take off a speaker grill to replace your speakers. Now you have to take off the whole damn door panel and deal with all the auto locks, window switches, mirror controls etc.
