I think i still have that issue! I miss my import days, when that was all I cared about was buying every single issue of Import Tuner, SCC, or Turbo Magazine that had a MKIV Toyota Supra in it.
The straps/handles are door openers. The door pulls are to pull it closed or store crap in.

My dad's 996 911 had center console window switches. Was very helpful to be able to roll up the driver's window from the passenger seat in case driver forgot (eg. at drive-thru ATMs or fast-food, getting the mail, etc) I wish ALL cars did this...
