What ever happened to hiring the best person for the job? Is someones skin color the most important attribute they have to the work environment? What if black people or hispanics arent applying for the jobs or do not have the right qualifications. Should there be a hiring freeze untill the right colored person comes

Don’t forget the token West Coaster from Stanford.

Colleagues,

As a physically disabled, formerly working mother who came to banking from a STEM background, I respectfully disagree. I absolutely added much needed diversity of thought and experience.

Speaking for my corporation, diversity in our realm includes diversity of national origin, of age, of sexual orientation, of parental status, of ability/disability, of lived experience (ie. veterans) in addition to women, POC, the perspecitve of native populations, etc.

Please go on...it’s a job that will never lead to real power or P&L responsibility. It’s also one they’ll push black women who actually have the chops to go into those others areas into. At my company they love to push black women engineers in this direction. Women with advanced engineering degrees...you know, the

Understanding that diversity includes women, people of color, LGBTQ people, and all underrepresented minorities is at the heart of our work to create an environment that is inclusive of everyone.

They’re diverse because in that group of 12 white boys, they attended all 8 Ivy League schools!!

OK so when does self defense and stand your ground come into play for these folks?

Is it hilarious or sad that there’s more hand wringing over a simple protest gesture than there was after a player knocked his wife unconscious in an elevator and then dragged her down a hallway like a sack of trash?

If I were to replace the word “black” with white, or latino, or Jewish, or Armenian, or any other adjective, the statement would still be true. The fact is, people in general, arm police, not to go out and kill people, but to protect our society. Therefore, when they use deadly force, we may expect an explanation, but

I don’t disagree with almost everything you wrote. However, I think you missed and will continue to miss the point. No white person or people, no brown, yellow or any color is going to care about the plight of the black person until the black culture shows they care about black people. If we don’t care about our own

“Unless you agree with me, you’re not worth talking to.” Now there’s a new approach to progress... :(

“Yes, but black people do so disproportionately. You’re right—even though white people commit most violent crimes” (which means that because of the raw numbers, if we had a choice between eliminating white-on-white crime or black-on-black crime, confronting white-on-white crime would pay far greater dividends)

You say you want to reach out a hand, yet there you are saying things like “you people”. Good article, but an awful lot of finger pointing makes you come off as racist yourself. I think the point people try to make about the numbers is over half the violent crime comes from just 13% of the population. Regardless of

The Black homicide rate is 17 per 100,000, a rate over 9x that of the White rate, and comparable to some of those most murderous countries in the world.

They never seem to manage to get to “white-on-white” crime either, somehow, those people — let alone that whole “white-on-everyone” crime we somehow never hear about

The other big issue with people who say “What about black-on-black crime?” in discussions about Black Lives Matter and police violence is that when black people kill other black people, it is acknowleged that a crime has been committed, for which someone should be arrested, tried, convicted, and go to prison. In

Eh, anytime I hear someone who brings that up or the fun loving concept of we’ve given black people so many chances. Every other race is a respectful “American” with insert some diatribe. I tell them about Greenwood Tusla. We did try. YOU BURNED IT TO THE GROUND! Cause you were afraid we were making actually strides
