As I’m comforting my Muslim spouse as she sobs about what this means for her, I don’t have time for nausea. I just want her to be okay. I want to live in a place where an interfaith lesbian couple with disabilities aren’t seen as the enemy. I’m tired of our lives hanging in the balance every goddamn election because

TWO HOUR LINE? All hail mail-in voting.

The Secret Service is not going to be too happy with a protectee in line. Not only is is an unnecessary security risk, but the presence of one of the candidates is disruptive at the minimum.

Part of my job is security and yes this is why you would want to let the rancid pile of dorito dust cut the line. Although the ideal would have been to get his Orange ass down there when the polls opened.

The Secret Service detail of every president/candidate dares to disagree with you on this. Where are the pictures of Bill Clinton, GWB, Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton just to name a few, patiently waiting in line for hours while the Secret Service tries to secure the whole premise? Right, they don’t exist.

To be fair there was only one person in front of Kaine. Maybe Trump should’ve been at the polls at 6am if he didn’t want to wait.

I think it’s a reasonable standard to let anyone with Secret Service protection but the line. There are a few exceptions - Joe Biden waited in line in Delaware in 2012 (my parents voted in the same precinct), and apparently Tim Kaine waited in line today.

Probably, but I also do think that the whole “It just makes the voting process run smoother for more people” reason would be compelling enough even without any security considerations.

Let him get his photo op, then get him the hell out of there so it doesn’t cause a problem. I can just see some ruckus meaning they’d have to shut down that polling place for a while.

I think if you have a secret service detail they are going to let you go in and vote, because there may be security issues they can’t plan for if you wait hours to vote.

He gets to cut the line because otherwise it’s huge security issue.

It’s mostly about security. Having the Trumpstick in line would get pretty old in about 5 minutes.

I actually don’t mind this. Presidential candidates should get to cut. It’s fine. I’m pretty sure Clinton was allowed to do it this morning, if I remember correctly.

It seems weird to me that a candidate would wait in line. Campaigning is generally not allowed inside of polling places. In DC, if you’re wearing a pin for a candidate, you have to remove it, for example. So the actual candidate being inside of the polling place would seem to violate the spirit of “no campaigning”.

They let Hillary cut in line, too. Just FYI.

“Donald Trump tells it like it is, unless he claims he was misrepresented, was kidding, sarcastic, speaking metaphorically, or denies he ever said it in the first place!”

The longer he stands there the more likely it is that his presence becomes disruptive to lots of other people getting to vote. Larger crowds, the bystander effect (e.g. people are paying more attention to him and not going about their own voting as rapidly as they should) and all that jazz. Getting him in and out of

That’s the whole genius of Trump’s campaign: it’s just a massive MadLibs for angry while folk.

“You see when he says he’s going to ‘Make America Great Again’, he means that he’s going to (verb) the (noun) so that the (noun) is (adjective)! He really understands me!”

“Why won’t anyone respect my right to be a racist?”

“Different viewpoints need to be respected,” he continued, before explaining that the Republican presidential candidate’s positions have been misinterpreted. “When Trump says he wants to ban Muslims, he doesn’t really mean that. That’s never going to happen. What he really means is he wants extreme vetting.”
