He did loose money, but it was not robbery, it was basically extortion. I live in Venezuela and that is the standard MO for police. Police says you did something, you pay or you get in trouble... you don’t want to get in trouble in Venezuela...

Wait, so some asshole 3rd world country security guards really did draw their weapons and demand cash as a requisite for letting them go? So Lochte only lied about some events which was really only embellishing and we are roasting someone other than those backwards Brazilian corrupt pieces of human shits? I thought we…
Including him saying “Screw you guys, I’m going home”.
Yes - that’s my favorite part.
Have you read Deadspin before?
More importantly, if he’s found to be a Democrat, will there be a Congressional Hearing?
As a longtime reader I have been very confused by the coverage here on this story.
And all of that blurred memory stuff is fine up to a point. His (Lochte) original story had the rest of his teammates getting down on the ground when ordered, while he stood in defiance. His retelling has him brushing off having a gun pointed at his head.
I had to triplecheck that I had read it correctly, which was made difficult by my hysterical laughter. Not only is Lochte causing difficulties in Rio, he is also causing difficulties with my landlady.
I don’t know you but I’m fairly confident that you’re better than Ryan Lochte at literally everything except swimming and being hot women’s exceedingly regrettable life decision. So buck up.
Any shame I might have at never being better at anything than Ryan Lochte is at swimming is somewhat mitigated by knowing I am way better at peeing on a gas station wall than he seems to be.
Lochte’s agent: we have a call from the secret service calling about Brazil:
Just FYI, in the midst of the article you start citing a “Veloso”, but you never established in your article that that was the Police Chief’s name. I only know because I followed the link to the NYT article.
If you’re a high profile athlete in a foreign country trying to sneakily take a pair of local prostitutes to your room, the logical side would dictate that you don’t pause to piss all over a place that will likely have security cameras.
So this police inspector, from the totally above board, not corrupt at all, and with no reason to push a certain narrative, SAYS the swimmers lied and tells his own story and automatically we’re supposed to go “aha! THAT must be the truth.” Oh, he also completely blames the guy who isn’t present to contradict his…
Talking Points Memo ran an AP report yesterday that quoted a Rio police official (unnamed) saying two security officers pointed guns at them: http://talkingpointsmemo.com/world-news/off…
the four swimmers spoke to U.S. State Department officials and they agreed to shut up. Almost immediately after the briefing, Lochte “walked across the street” and gave an interview
You say that Feigen had left the country, but the USOC said tonight that he is still in Rio.
This is the final straw. Tomorrow I'm formally contesting Ryan's continued membership in MENSA.
The reason why Lochte’s lying isn’t trivial, even if, or especially if, Rio’s criminal justice system is corrupt, like, say, Chicago’s, is that when prominent celebrities report being victims of a violent crime, an embarassed police force can often decide to make a collar, without such niceties as having found the…
