No clarification needed, it’s just a dumb idea

“On the other side” means that he is aware of/in treatment for his mental issues, not that he’s cured and incapable of incidents. I think a person who has formally recognized and is in the process of addressing his mental disorder is the perfect person to comment on it.

(P.S. you can’t cure mental disorders)
