Cue some climate change deniers to drop in and completely misunderstand plate tectonics and claim this disproves global warming somehow.
Good points.
Yeah, that’d be downright bonkers.
Right, the Earth and life in general will survive the increase in C02 just fine, but there has not been a time during human civilization, or indeed human existence that had as much C02 as is forecasted. I for one am a human being that enjoys human civilization quite well, how about you?
...And every large shift in CO2 levels in the atmosphere in the history of the biosphere caused a mass extinction... Especially of large vertebrates like humans.
Sure, the only thing new is the rate of change, which is unprecedented in the history of the Earth. That atmospheric carbon levels rise and fall and are responsible for climate change is not a new phenomenon. Humans are just speeding that process way up.
Then imagine them doing nothing about it. HA! that would be ridiculous.
Yeah! Ha. Can you imagine a thinking, intelligent species which intentionally caused climate change? That’d be downright weird!
It’s worth pointing out that the transition from small patches of ground cover to forests (IOW what happens after plants evolve “being a tree”) acted as a carbon sink in two main ways. There was more CO2 being taken out of the atmosphere by plants incorporating it into their biomass. But there was also a change in…
Imagine if they were sentient. “We need to stop breathing or start burning our dead; otherwise we risk climate change that will eradicate our species.”
