Oasis I remember once made the presenter of Top of The Pops say they don't consider themselves Indie but I think it refers to more of a sound than a label thing, at least in Britain. I think some bands see it as something fey like Belle and Sebastian but it's a general catch all term. Lazy perhaps but has its uses.

I just imagine they would hate it because (actually I think I mean singer and founder Mark E Smith) because Indie means Oasis and The Smiths to them. Great bands I would argue, but Smith enjoys hating everyone,

The Fall are an amazingly original English indie band (that would hate the word Indie) and anything else called that is just wrong.
