So Muslims that wear veils are assholes?
So Muslims that wear veils are assholes?
The people who make those kinds of “jokes” are generally assholes with an awful sense of humor... Or the type of person who loves a good Jew/not-white person joke.
I know. I feel so fucking helpless in the face of all this assholery from our countrymen. It’s so infuriating and embarrassing. I vote, I speak up, I don’t tolerate shit like this but I just can’t stand that this is happening here. I don’t believe in rounding up people because of a difference in opinion or religion…
Ugh, I know. Either the teacher *actually* thought a 13 year old girl was carrying a bomb in her backpack—which is paranoid af—or else she was intentionally humiliating a 13 year old girl in front of her peers because of her religion. In either case, this teacher clearly has zero good judgment and shouldn’t be…
Same.
At 14 I had never even had a thought as intelligent and clear as this one let alone articulated it. What a neat kid. Also, a delight on screen. Girl Meets World is a totally cute show.
Please keep doing that. Smile, say hello, ask how they are doing... As a Muslim woman I can tell you we appreciate that act more than you know. I’ve only had a few instances of someone saying something nasty to me in public but lately what I notice more is people looking away. They pull away and look away and the vibe…
“The action of othering people actively is so damaging”
So much this. In my high school, the thespian club was the largest because we took anyone and everyone. You came to a meeting and immediately had people. We were all the weirdos and anyone’s quirk was a strength to some aspect of a project we were working on. We all had purpose, and we all had a family with one…
Nope.
Off topic, but this is a quote from 14 year old Rowan Blanchard. An entry for “Who Can Be The Best?”
Yeah Fox has some kind of vitriol sweepstakes going on, ‘tis rather bleak.
Right. If it wasn’t ill intent, then what was the intent? To embarrass a young girl? To “jokingly” associate all Muslims with bombs? Is there any kind of intent in this situation that isn't gross?
Personally, I don’t think genuine human kindness is anything less than awesome (yet realize that’s not the prevailing cultural attitude).
This is so goddamned depressing. We have a large Islamic community in my city, and lately I’ve been trying to give every person who wears hijab an extra large smile when I pass them. It’s probably silly, but it’s one of the only things I feel that I can do (besides donating to the Dems).
It’s all in the context and the delivery. For all we know the teacher was wearing a rainbow fright wig, carrying a bottle of seltzer and sporting a t-shirt reading “OFFICIAL BOMB INSPECKTORE.” That’s funny, right?
It wasn’t. After the fact PR cover-up, since they got called out.
The teacher said she knew her joke went too far,
“I didn’t teach my children to hate people or to think they are better than other people.” Aden said.
