I now drive a Mazda CX-5 - so NA, but comparatively lightweight and high compression, so I end up with about 30 mpg on the highway, with AWD. Not too shabby.

Yes I have to presume that the long-term solution is a combination of variable compression and energy recovery through braking. Some embedded solar panels probably wouldn’t hurt either.

That’s not to say that it can’t work - but you need a decent displacement engine, like 1.8-2.0L, and a boost that doesn’t kick in until higher revs, and then you can get some benefit and not distort the tested MPGs so much.

Is this news? I thought that was the guiding principle behind turbos anyway - better MPGs because it relies on you cruising at low RPMs. My old Audi A4 was fine at 2500 RPM but I knew that stepping on it was going to drive the MPG down quickly. Did people really think there was something for nothing here?

What’s you’re seeing is the failure of the resin, as CF doesn’t have any real ability to resist compression forces - it’s the resin that performs that duty. CFRP is really more about stiffness to weight, rather than resisting compressive forces.

This is easy to fix. Make it clear that the NYPD will deem any pedestrian who dies from a collision with a cyclist that takes place in the bike lane as “no criminality suspected,” and they’ll suddenly actually pay fucking attention where they’re walking.

I’ve been a road cyclist for 13 years, so I find Soulcycle amusing at best. Most of the instructors haven’t been on an actual bicycle since they were 7, and the point of the class is pretty much the opposite of what you do on the road; i.e., the class is designed to burn as many calories as possible in a short period

Manafort can say whatever he wants. I’m pretty sure he’s aware they lost this round, completely. As far as I know, there’s nobody on the right trying to defend it, partially because its so blatant, and partially because Trump has so systematically alienated all the organs of the new and old conservative media, with

This was always what Ingress was meant to be in the first place.

I had this. On a Mac SE/30. In 1988-89. Good times.

“Cigarettes didn’t kill anyone.”

I’m pretty sure this was the plot of Crysis 3.

I used to see him at the gym 3-4x a week (Reebok). I’m guessing he’s probably not your type.

Nothing, but as far as I can tell it has not subpoena’d anything, and its not clear they have subpoena power, so I think that FB could just say no at this stage and decline to attend. I’m sure that would go over well.

I personally enjoy clicking into Facebook “trending” stories, mostly because it shows people’s posts about the stories, often with their commentary. It’s quite instructive to see people post about Donald Trump or Obama or Old Navy, because I think you can tell a lot about someone based on his/her diction and grammar,

Here’s a fun thought exercise:

We’re pretty clearly heading to the point of “Governor, what did you know and when did you know it?” quite shortly.

Re: Alien: Covenant, I take it this is Scott’s way of confirming that Prometheus was not in the same line as Alien, as he had said previously, oddly.

I’m really looking forward to hearing Irving ISD’s explanation of the other side. Because there’s nothing more entertaining than watching bigots try to explain why their bigotry is not only entirely reasonable but the right way to go.

He won’t have immunity from getting punched in the face for throwing a cigarette at somebody.
