You can’t assume that a guy taking the kick when you are down 3-0 kicks it with the same confidence (or anxiousness) as if he was kicking it if pens were tied 3-3. In my opinion, the first penalty is as important as the fifth. You’re the first man up. It’s a lot of pressure. Vidal went up and blistered one into the net, while Quaresma went up and didn’t. If Ronaldo takes that first penalty and scores, maybe things go differently for Portugal. Who knows.
