Well, I mean, I didn’t introduce the probability equation. It exists whether you are aware of it or not. I agree on this: the volunteer study design is essentially a game like poker, which includes the players’ reckoning on the likelihood of different outcomes - the probabilities.

The interesting thing about this is - what does it mean from a manager’s perspective? Let’s say a manager in this study has a task they need a volunteer for, but are blind to the likelihood of actually getting one. The expected values are like this:

Your idea about the study is wrong tho. Volunteering is the losing strategy for a rational individual participant. If you do nothing, you have a 2/3 chance of getting a dollar, and a 1/3 chance of getting $2. 

I was at a wedding in which the MoH, the bride’s sister, spoke for 25 minutes, broke down crying three times during the speech, and was followed by the bride’s father who spoke for 15 minutes and cried once. To this day I regret not getting up and walking out of that shitshow of a wedding. 

Yes. That was my brother who was the BM at my wedding. He got high and winged it. Then her MoH nailed the speech and righteously put him to shame.

I am in physical pain from how much I identify with this.

Of the weddings I’ve attended in my lifetime (20? idk) only about a quarter of the speeches were good. I have listened to some truly bad wedding speeches. The bad ones featured problems ranging from little flaws to full disasters, but the common denominator is that they were all too long.

I have not checked in on Sammy Sosa in a while, so I just saw that with fresh eyes. He is going full MJ.

My scumbag brain keeps giving a dream in which I have to do another year in Iraq. It gets more and more hilariously implausible the older I get. It’s to the point where I’m aware that I’m having the dream as it is happening.
