This is often a class-based issue, where poor, minority communities suffer from problems that disqualify them from serving as police officers — credit issues, criminal records, etc. Relatively speaking, you need a squeaky clean record to join the police force. The police tend to be either originally from elsewhere, or…
Tasers (and pepper spray and a variety of other weapons) were developed as a "less lethal" alternative to lethal force. Law enforcement agencies, many of them, adopted Tasers in the wake of a "tragic incident" in their communities. Police officers (and their trainers) will tell you that if your life is at stake a…
This is what I could see happening. I believe highway funding was tied to changing the drinking age from 18 to 21, which forced states to comply.
Pretty much no, but they could tie highway funds or whatever to it thus greatly incentivizing it (this constitutionally suspect to me, but whatever, it is just the way it is). That is why speed limits and DUI-levels are basically uniform nationwide.
GoPros and Contours are terrible in low light. What drives the price of these Axon units is their optics. Good optics are expensive (GoPro), good low-light optics are VERY expensive (Axon).
GoPros probably don't have the same storage and battery capabilities as the cameras the government is buying. Wonder how long these ones record for and how long they keep the data? Probably at least a week, maybe even a month.
Probably people that remember that free speech allows the goods to openly beat up the bads.
Censorship is never a good thing because it only let those ideas fester in the dark ,reappear in a very pernicious way, reach an audience that might have dismissed it may those writings were out in the open. Let alone that It is not because someone doesnt say It that He/She doesnt think it. Personnaly I do it BBC…
Bostonian here. Life long Red Sox fan. Remember the name Victoria Snelgrove? I do. She was a total stranger, and I'll carry it until I die. Boston PD fatally shot her in the brain with a pepper spray ball fired through her eye. A ball only fired because the PD had recently acquired crowd-control paintball guns,…
Because you have common sense ?
a mob is a little different than a group of protesters. Does this look like a group of protesters to you?
Are you ignoring the fact that crime has become more organized and violent, also? You bring up the tower shooting, and yes, that was an impetus. Also the infamous North Hollywood shootout comes to mind. How else do you respond to crimes such as these becoming more common than by better arming police? Would you prefer…
THAT is the truth. That and people are totally fine throwing rocks and yelping from afar, but the second something happens to you, the story changes. Just interesting to watch and listen.
What ,an angry mob can't gather in the street chanting kill the police, breaking into businesses, and setting cars and buildings on fire anymore without the Police showing up!? What is this Nazi Germany?
Exactly!! But then again I've come to the conclusion the American populace has the memory of a goldfish.
Isnt it funny how quickly people forgot how they BEGGED for the police to be better equipped for situations like that?
Don't forget the north Hollywood bank robbery shootout of 1997. The police were outgunned by 2 dudes with body armor and a personal arsenal. The public outcry for better equipped more heavily armed cops after that incident is just one of the reasons why we are seeing these new militarized cops. Its simply become an…
