The big problem with tasks, is there is no reminder (no auto email, or sms via gcal).

A big benefit to a "portable server" is you can take your files with you easily. A NAS does not needs tons of power, but for some tasks, such as running sickbeard, sabnzb, bittorrent, dlna transcoding or other "server-style" tasks, a more powerful system is better.
