My guess is 3D animation composited in most likely After Effects. There are other compositing tools out there, but I think they used AE to pull it all together.

I love them, but they squandered their online strategy with the wii and even all the handhelds. Other companies are making buckets of cash with micro-transactions and Nin missed the boat, not to mention the ease of adding and finding friends. More like passing a whole watermelon. nin knew apple was heading in this direction - so they 'beat them to the punch'. Apple announcing an updated appleTV system that allows playing with apps via your iphone/ipad will happen soon enough.

There are a lot of casual gamers who are used to this medium (tablet), and this will appeal to them. I had wondered how Nin was going to respond to Apple. This is their response. Will it work? I donno.
