His place looked like shit!

These guys do movie lists right, with a clear knowledge of the medium and not JUST the obvious picks. Also, whenever they do a top 10 they'll actually list about three times as many films and they always tend to tackle things from different angles. They've got me to check out a fair few films; Watch Mojo they are not.

And halfway through the film someone basically tells him this and that the machine will basically lobotomise him if he remains in the dream state. Quaid believes it to be a ruse by the "bad guys", kills the guy who tells him and carries on.

I think what makes it such a masterful twist (and I hesitate to even call it a twist) is that even though it's quite heavily hinted at, the film never outright tells the audience what has happened and it's up to the audience to work it out.

Total Recall is a fun Schwarzenegger action film and then there's a suuuuuuper cheesy ending and I'm thinking "Why was it so goddamn cheesy?" and then I realise and holy shit that film becomes so great.
