Yep, and +1 to the "you just don't get it man" defense. Many of the responses I've gotten to my comments have been either a variation of that or the hurling of insults because I expect a show that takes it self so profoundly to have equally profound meaning.

I'm doubtful because there's typically 3+ weeks in show time between episodes and there hasn't been a ton of direct consequence shown just yet. Most episodes have been capsule-y (sort of like Mad Men).

And no one was caught? Noticed? Recorded on any device which might be used to charge them with a crime?

Hey everyone, we got a comedian over here!

See, even supposing you're right (not taking a side one way or the other), you said it in a way that will have no sane person agreeing with you. Why don't you try again and show by example how much of a better communicator you are?

It's certainly not as high impact in a 2014 world as it would've been even 15 years ago. Sometimes it feels like the writers are riffing on experiences they had in their youth without realizing how they might (or might not) apply today.

No questions allowed! Just like "How did the GR get into everyone's homes?", the only questions that will have answers are the ones the writers decide on.

If you're well-read it is. I'm getting the feeling a lot of commenters that show up each week are still working on their fiction chops, at least based on how flabbergasted they seem at others finding the show's metaphors obvious and heavy-handed.

I liked LOST but I wanted even less explanation and more hand-waving. So I think Leftovers and me will get along just fine.

These episodes are beginning to feel like collegiate short stories—decorated with allegory and overly self-important, all while still lacking in polish. That's not to say there isn't potential here; there most certainly is. But the writers are relying on poor communication and character "idiot logic" to create

I tried, but I just couldn't get the rhythm of Fargo (unfortunately). I might have to give it another go that hopefully won't result in me checking my phone every five minutes :/

Yes I know the classic (and TV Trope) definition; I looked around for a more apt term that isn't as generic as "The Hook", but the problem is that until a narrative is finished, the audience isn't sure if something is a MacGuffin or not. In this case, the disappearance might go full MacGuffin, or it might be pulled

Interesting way to put it, and I don't disagree with what you've said. For me, Wayne was one of the most compelling aspects of the pilot in part because I'm really hoping he is another weird element of this weird universe.

I think I drew that conclusion because most of the episode had an uneasy vibe to it (including a lot of "shock" cuts, which I really really dislike) and that the teenagers felt a lot like kids out of Donnie Darko (which itself had a number of "kids ambush other kids" scenes)

Yep. Also, as a purveyor of S&M activities myself, it seemed like a cheap way to make things feel weird/dark (as is so often the case in TV and movies). There's a wide spectrum of motives for any action, but myself (and many of the people I know) who practice S&M do it with absolutely no nihilistic intent—it's more

That is quite the convoluted way to passively kill yourself.

Well, one minute they're on the prowl for pussy (when they encounter Jill + friend at school), and then they're finding baby shoes (?), then they're creeping up on Jill to her car in what felt like a potential rape scene about to happen, and then they've got a goofy vibe as they help bury the dog. For me, the tone

It was definitely clunky, out-of-touch writing. Choke/Burn were way too masochistic for the average teen crowd, and the drug usage was comically overdone. It's a shame, too—if they toned that scene down a bit it would've been much more powerful.

Yeah, I wondered about this too. Isn't it cheating to break your vow of silence with writing?

They seemed to be interested in the girls and yet seemed ultra-gay as well. Not sure if it's more "confusion for confusion's sake" but to me it was more tonally inconsistent than anything else.
