There are some videos where actors have tried to recreate the accent, contrasted with the modern accent. (skip ahead to 3 minutes) -

Not to be all nerdy, but -their accent has changed over the past 400 years, as has ours. The non-rhotic accent that they speak with is merely a modern trend, and I won't have it.

Apparently you don't know a lot about British traditions! That's not a "town crier." That's clearly a pirate.

I have had a lot of UTIs, and cranberry supplements have never worked for me to cure it. I haven't tried this one though.

Yeah, but that's the thing about monarchies - you don't get to choose. Even if the whole country hated him, there would be no reason for him to abdicate. Prince Phillip can run around referring to Chinese people as "slitty-eyed" or making fun of Indians, and people get annoyed, but what does he care if people are

There is still a sizable contingent of hereditary peers in the house of lords, who won the right to influence policy because their ancestors were successful at murdering. They've changed the rules about hereditary positions, but they're still not elected positions. The queen is still the head of state, and even if she

Why would anyone abdicate? This has happened only once in the entire history of England, unless there's some medieval situation I'm forgetting about. I don't know why people think the queen would stop reigning before her death or why Charles would be "skipped."

Until about a few days ago, I thought everyone was talking about this Chris Evans:

That's a valid point. But the fact that there is such outrage over this cover, where it didn't exist previously, makes me think it says more about the people responding and less about the magazine. What is it about this image that's making people so uncomfortable? I think it has something to do with people really,

Jeffrey Dahmer and McVeigh both graced magazine covers. McVeigh wasn't particularly pretty, but Dahmer was at the time of his arrest, and he had a major fan club. There was no outcry about the magazine covers at the time. I guess people find Dzhokhar particularly attractive?

Yeah I am hoping there will be some reason that I need a C-section. Part of that is that there seems to be lasting physiological changes caused by vaginal birth that don't happen with a C-section.

Why can't they do that now? This is exactly what I would like.

No alcohol or caffeine, tastes in food reverting back to childhood... On the plus side, I now feel justified in eating mint oreo ice cream for breakfast.

Excellent. I'm pregnant for the first time. I have not heard great things about how this person will be extricated from me. Did you attempt a drug-free birth? The worst stories I've heard have been from people who wanted to go drug free. Although there are also other bad stories.

Jesus loved it when people called women sluts. He was all "throw stones at those sluts!" I think that's how the story goes.

When I lived in the UK, I was always mistaken for a Canadian. But I think that might be because people felt it was impolite to call someone American.

He is excellent in this movie.

Like Europe, the US does not have a unified history of race laws and relations. You could say that the UK has a less racist history than some parts of the US. Some US states outlawed slavery before the UK did. Racist attitudes continued long after that in the US and UK. South Boston had racist riots in the 1960s,

I think all these countries have issues with racism, as does the US. I lived in the UK for 8 years, and I've seen the BNP rallies and heard the "not being funny but [I hate dark-skinned foreigners]" comments enough to know that they are not some progressive haven. But, you do see more interracial couples in the UK

If we were talking about legally sanctioned segregation in the US, then we're not talking about the present day.
