I did not know about the production problems. Shelley Long is a fine comedic actress and, based on her solid work in Outrageous Fortune (similarly a light action comedy), she probably could’ve pulled the role off.

I love the scene where she plays the song over and over until hitting on what she’s looking for. (I was twelve when the movie came out and it was the first time I heard the name Marianne Faithfull.)

Not only is it used, it’s a major plot point.

Yay, I get to cite About Last Night (also from 1986), a terrific movie that doesn’t get mentioned much. Demi’s great in it, perhaps never better.

I suppose it doesn’t matter in reality.  “Hometown girl makes good” isn’t automatically a thing.

When I saw Major League in the theater a woman sitting nearby commented on how good Arsenio Hall is. That’s how unknown Wes was then.

I saw this opening weekend, probably opening night, and the sleeping bag kill brought the house down. Pandemonium! What an awesomely hilarious moment of moviegoing with a theater full of strangers, something that can’t be replicated at home.

Speaking of ‘80s action movies set at Christmastime, the other night I watched (some of) Lethal Weapon and you know what? It hasn’t aged all that well. The running gag of Riggs’s inability to get through the day without killing someone is really not funny now.

It is their happening and it freaks you out!
