These systems already exist on steam. They are called returns. I can’t return a game on a steam, and then put it into “offline” mode, and keep playing it. That’s not true though, as most games (especially the games in question) have multiplayer modes and additional content. As far as single player campaign only games, this already exists in the form of brick and mortal used game selling and buying and services like gamefly. The only difference online is convenience.

this is exactly right. Digital resales would destroy the artificial price control on the software marketplace, making games cost what consumers are willing to pay, rather than what the company wants to sell it for.
