Re: losing languages and motor skills
Do you have anything to back up your claim that you can lose a language?
I can admit you might lose something over time in either of these. I call that something familiarity. Motor skills for example there is a phrase "it's like riding a bike" which is commonly used to explain

I can tell you like to defend your position b/c you responded to every one of my posts. Me too :)

You could still touch type in both. You wouldn't be un-learning Qwerty. I only switch if I am at a new machine I will be using for more than 30 minutes.

First it (Dvorak) is a universal ISO standard available on most any computer. You're fingers will travel 40% less (one clear benefit). You will eventually type faster (personal experience). It is easier to learn touch-typing in Dvorak (personal experience). So there is one clear benefit and 2 less clear ones.

That is tot exactly true. The link I referenced covered this farsehood. The original typewriters paper was stamped up from the bottom and the hammers were returned by gravity (you typed blindly without seeing the letters on your paper). This was slow. The arrangement was influenced by a desire to separate digraphs

On laptops and ergonomic keyboards: when making the jump to full dvorak I also switched to ergonomic (split) keyboards. People tend to hate these. I found out that the reason is mainly because of the gap. Guess what gap-haters: if you are crossing the gap... You're doing it wrong! Go learn to touch type!

If you're looking at the keys you're doing it wrong to begin with.

I think it is misleading to say "QWERTY will become difficult for you very fast.". It becomes unfamiliar but stays as difficult as ever (not more). Think about it like this: if you learned and spoke only spanish for 8 months would english become difficult? Of course not! It might take an extra millisecond of thinking

Has to be mentioned. This post really made me terrified/ecstatic to be a dad:

This sounds like an effective way to force yourself to learn Dvorak, or a reason to set your machine password to something like "A!MAma1MMA4$AM" ("A" and "M" are the same in both layouts.

This is included now in BrowserChooser.

I have to be pragmatic and say that modifying keyboards mice is never as useful as upgrading. Finding the perfect keyboard mouse combo is super crucial IMHO.

It is less than a bot and more of a macro tool.

Nobody mentioned MacroGamer(itoady.com). It is an autoit program (similar to AutoHotKey) that allows you to write keyboard scripts and respond to screen events. It was built as a low cost way to replicate the functionality of the Razor Nostromo

@Whitson Gordon = I have the perfect web app idea/domain that solves this. I am taking a leap of faith and sharing it with the world right now. I want it to exist so bad but I have no resources. Here is the link http://fwbin.com Currently it forwards to a Google Presentation show that describes the idea.
