Just now finding out Captain America was by the same director and this makes me very happy.

Man, everything about The First Avenger is great. That montage (and whoa, the song!) and all the USO stuff worked perfectly, thanks to Johnston and Evans (who, in my opinion, is the best-cast of anyone in the MCU, and there’s a lot of competition there). The boot camp scenes - especially the one where Rogers jumps on

Yeah, that aesthetic! I was only 11 when the Rocketeer came out, so I couldn’t really appreciate it (something the author talked about...90's kids wouldn’t have been mature enough to undersand film aesthetic).

I remember seeing it as part of a special birthday double-feature (I was in a very small town—there were exactly two movies playing at the local theater and I got to see both of them) with Costner’s Robin Hood. It was unquestionable which one was better.

Torch, my ‘71 Super Beetle had a bad starter solenoid, but rather than replace it I’d crawl underneath with a long screwdriver and jumper the motor. I did in fact run myself over more than once by forgetting to shift to neutral, and once nearly electrocuted myself while doing this in the rain and parked in a puddle.

A dude with a leather flight jacket, jodhpurs, a retro space-age looking helmet, and a rocket pack, holding a broomhandle Mauser while standing majestically in front of an American flag? Fuck YES. I tear up a little just thinking about it.

I was 12.

It was so satisfying to see Joe Johnston score a direct hit with Captain America: The First Avenger, which remains my sentimental favorite of the MCU catalog.

I have the dimmest memories of seeing Career Opportunities in the theater. I was in 4th or 5th grade and I can’t for the life of me remember how I used to pick movies, but I went to the likes of Encino Man and Clean Slate, so that was right in my wheelhouse. I was a couple years too young for that poster to have the

Sounds like a pretty plausible ‘urban legend’ to me.

I’m sure those Career Opportunities posters were responsible for many young boys entering manhood.

I once read somewhere words to the effect of, “Batman was a comic book movie directed by Tim Burton. Batman Returns was a Tim Burton movie with Batman in it.”

Jennifer Connelly.

I’m not going to fight you. I’m going to help you fight people. In fact, I’ll raise you. The Rocketeer is one of the best MOVIES ever. Every single action in film informs character decisions and drives the plot forward. It’s beautiful aesthetically, and it’s god damned gorgeous narrative wise.

The Rocketeer was one of the best superhero movies ever. Fight me.

dumbass america elected one as president.

Walls work!

Hamilton, Hamilton, Hamilton. You just don’t understand how to run government like a business. That’s what the GOP is doing.

Indeed, at this unprecedented rate we will soon have the largest percentage of non-native born in our nation’s history,”
