“Latin” in this context comes from Latin America. Italians aren’t latinoamericans. Neither they speak Latin, anyway. The Italian language comes from Latin, as do Spanish, French, Portuguese, etc, the languages spoken in Latin America.

That‘s the problem you have when you are adapting a (fictional or historic) female character from centuries ago: they kind of are exceptional. Most women couldn’t do what these characters did, because their societies didn’t allow it. So, you need to rewrite history or end up with the exception.
