But your solution following it seems to suggest that rather than pressure the Government/Republicans to respect liberal values like free speech, instead progressives should also abandon their commitment to these values in order to, like, even the playing field, or something.

This is fair, but two points I’d like to raise:

It is not a 1st amendment violation but it is against the principle of free speech as a liberal value. Faced with someone whose ideas/words you don’t like, you have a few choices: 1) Don’t listen to them, 2) Use your speech to argue why that person is wrong, or 3) Prevent that person from speaking.

Sorry you can’t handle watching somebody talk to somebody you don’t like. When Bill announced Milo’s name, you should have taken that as a trigger warning.
