It’s an amazing amount of commitment to something I can’t imagine anyone but this woman wanting to do, at least beyond trying it once to see if they can do it.

Haha. Yeah, we definitely take what we can get.

I think this is another context thing. People in the US are not going to see the mere presence of firearms instead of swords as anything other than an intentionally jarring anachronism. (And the only people who really liked it here were the sort of people who also like films regarded as more “arty” or not commercial.)

On looking this up, I noticed that they also called her “Jenniferrather than Jessica in the story above, assuming it’s the same person. Mann is a pretty common surname, and Weinstein is probably the only one with a longer list of victims than Cosby.

I always confuse popes with bears because people keep asking if they both shit in the woods.

I related hard to Rahim in that moment in the church. Every time I go to church with family, I feel kind of like a liar and wish I could just be honest (but I don’t mention it there, of course, because that would be rude). I felt like it was a moment of half-naive honesty, I suppose. In the real world, though, it

Nobody reasonable is pro-rapist.  I find it disgusting and medieval when people rejoice in another’s death, no matter how much they believe it is deserved.

The fact that you hate rape doesn’t make you special, but the fact that you’re probably a psychopath might.

I hope this comment keeps you awake at night.

Also, streaming services autoplaying the next show after emotionally affecting final scenes. I need the time with the credits to absorb what just happened, damn it.  (Yes, I know I can stop it, and I usually catch it in time now.)

I’ve heard and read a lot of people discussing this in the past 10 years, and no one has ever mentioned that distinction. I’d never seen it, so I had nothing to contribute, but I honestly thought the fact that people weren’t up in arms was because it was RDJ and people liked him and/or felt there was no malice it, so

I read about 100 pages of Infinite Jest and realized it felt more like something I was supposed to like than something I was actually enjoying. On the other hand, I read House of Leaves in one very unsettling weekend when I was 16 and will forever love it.

I had the same thought during the first series, but they’ve really done a good job of handling it in the first few episodes I’ve seen, so I’m kind of curious how you feel now that you’ve presumably seen some or all of it. I think it was basically just the fact that it took them a full season to get to that point, and

I’d recommend Waste of Paint, which I love on its own, but it pairs well with Cursive’s Art is Hard as a palate cleanser, especially if the former is just a bit much for you.

I take this review with a grain of salt, given other things I’ve thought were brilliant and/or fun that this author didn’t like (The Brink, mainly).

I can understand the reaction, but honestly, this article pointing it out seems worse than A&E promoting him.

It’s been a long post about Decembers, but there’s reason to believe that this year will be better than the last.

I think that was probably a wise decision. Mainstream perception of fantasy is more favorable than ever, but one bad elf-ear prosthetic in a trailer can probably still do some damage.

That seems like a useful piece of information in getting it taken down. The least bit of public scrutiny on the landlord could solve the problem.

These are all really good points, and I take them to heart. To be honest, I did know it was probably not going to go well for me to say it, which might put it perilously close to the concern trolling category, but that really wasn’t my intention. I think there’s something about the appropriation of the swastika that
