I personally thought an early miscarriage was not a cop-out. It certainly avoided the cliches of a 'middle-aged woman makes the show all about her baby' or the 'it was all a mistake by a klutz'. It also had Iannucci's fingerprints of grossness/realism/believability all over it. All in all, a pretty clever way out.

I thought Blade Runner was one of the few examples of films, like Welles' Touch of Evil,  where the director's cut was actually not as good as the studio's cut. Scott's replacement of the Vangelis score with jazz themes and the omission of Deckard's world-weary voice-over perversely hurt the film.

I remember seeing Emmanuelle in Oman in the 80s. It was just twenty minutes of people opening and closing doors.

There used to be a very tense and exciting TV series on the BBC called 'Secret Army'. It was about a cafe owner in wartime France, played extremely well by Bernard Hepton, who became a very reluctant resistance organiser, always one step ahead of the local gestapo leader, Clifford Rose, playing the chilling Kessler.
