Tell that to Jay Leno. He probably doesn’t change oil (I’d pay someone else to do boring stuff like that if I were a billionaire too), but he will get dirty from time to time. At the very least, I’d want space for my personal mechanics and fabricators to work so they can make my dream builds happen.

The NADA’s aversion to EVs isn’t really about EVs per-se. There are three key issues:

I assume the implementation will be similar to what GM’s “Teen Driver Mode” does. You get a chime and a “vehicle overspeed” notice on the dash when the vehicle is over the speed limit. It’s annoying, but it will do nothing to deter the type of person who will go 105mph in a residential zone.

A lot of it is just the class of car. You buy a large luxury sedan because it has the latest features and looks like money. After 5 years, it no longer has the latest features and looks like the old model (no longer money).

Did they accidentally post the wrong picture? This is the first I’ve heard of them, but what’s in the photo looks pretty heinous to me. The back 1/2 looks fine, but the nose looks like it should be a tail. Sort of like a person with a butt for a face.

One nice thing is that the common motor failures mean that motors are dirt cheap. A new EJ257 short block from Subaru with the improved ringlands can be had for $2,000. Add gaskets and a few “while you are in there” items, and you can get the car back on the road in a weekend for $2,500 or so if you are the handy…

The EJ257s in the STI are mostly fine on head gaskets. It’s the NA EJ motors that had big head gaskset issues. Their main issue is the piston ringlands in pre Type-RA blocks. Other weak points are the unequal length headers and need for a good air-oil separator so excessive blow-by isn’t fed into the combustion…
