There are still these guys around, mostly in small pockets just outside Baltimore and south of DC in the remote suburbs.

I saw 101 when it was released on VHS and recall having to wait for what seemed like an eternity for Violator to come out.
It’s like Crossfitters and powerlifters. Close, but different and angry.
How in the world did Deadspin find these people???
BOOOOOO!
Get a grip, man. This is a fun story. Not moral outrage story. Donald Trump blog is over there ——>>>
That parking lot was the smoker's area at my high school mostly minus the drugs and booze.
Whitesnake @ the AMP last year. It was basically a tailgate party with stadium seating, full of the cast of Heavy Metal Parking Lot +30 years. It was awesome. Dudes dressed like college professors and accountants but rocking out with reckless abandon like they did in the 80's. Gave me hope for my future...
I wonder why the Punks (0r Skaters as they were called at my school) and the Metal kids beefed so hard? They were at odds at my school too.
My brother could have easily been one of the kids in this film. Black Levi's, AC/DC t-shirt (with the sleeves cut off), blonde mullet, faint whiff of cigarette smoke. That was my brother from 1985-1989.
“Cranking it up on their Fiero’s tape deck through a top of the line graphic equalizer.”
Exactly. Trust me I still love 80s metal and always will.
Tracking down these legends is literally the most important thing Deadspin has ever done.
Whenever I see a Glen Burnie sign when I’m driving I almost automatically go:
“Glen Burnie”
“Party”
“Slayer at Hammerjack’s is the metal equivalent of seeing the Beatles at the Cavern Club”
This is spectacular.
Here’s the 20-year anniversary “where are they now” film the producers made in 2006:
I made my favorite t-shirt because of this doc.
We used to have a wall in front of my high school called...The Wall. If you hung out there you were “trouble” and most definitely skipped class, had a Mötley Crüe inspired haircut (although you listened to pre-”Ride the Lightning” Metallica, not fucking Mötley Crüe) and wore torn jeans, matching jacket with a big ass…
Jeff Krulik’s Led Zeppelin Played Here is an amazing work about memory, legend and suspect paperwork.
Its a great companion piece to “Decline of Western Civilisation Part II: The Metal Years”
