I LOLed when I saw the image of an Oculus on their Kickstarter page. If you have an Oculus, there's little reason to have this.

As much as people want the final version, they still have a ways to go before it's ready for the public.

Miiverse has nothing to do with it. I'm not even sure where you see a connection there. It has nothing to do with using your account across multiple versions of the same console.

Nintendo, releasing new consoles is great and all. Can we PLEASE now have the ability to link multiple consoles to the same Nintendo ID? I'll now have 4 3DS systems and it's silly that only one can be linked to my account.

No, it's not stupid. It's a requirement for how the display in the Rift works. The lenses in the Rift correct for this separation, so you don't see it while playing. You only see it in video capture, as the image won't have the proper correction applied.

While HL2 is great, I have two other apps which top my list as favourite Rift experiences.
