James managed to keep my rapt attention for 26 hours of audio book talking about an assassination attempt on a musician I haven’t cared about since freshman year of college (and the geopolitical history of Jamaica in the 70’s) because he’s that good a writer.
I’ll gladly read 200 pages on an underground dwarf race by

Off topic but kind of on topic: my knee-jerk response when I read local news stories is always to look for people on Facebook to see how they want to projected themselves to the world before whatever has happened happened.
Now would be a good time for this woman and her boyfriend to update those privacy settings. (And

Which scenes are you talking about? I don’t know of any since 2014 (I’m fuzzy on when in the year they split up.)

I’ve always assumed that the executive producer owned both a lamé factory and had a deep investment in cocaine distribution network.

p.s. I’ve been convinced for a long time that Gideon was a huge fan of the BIM .

I kind of want to be super pedantic and point out that it’s even written in the book’s forward. Literally on the 2nd page (even though it’s not clear who Mrs. Robert Schiller is until the end.)

I made the theme song my ringtone so every time the show starts, I reflexively reach for my phone.

I kept thinking about this thread for the last few days because it was hard for me to think of any books that weren’t disappointing on an older re-read.
I saw this post on Flavorwire today and I think she got at what I was feeling (in a much longer more detailed anaylsis): Why Do We Re-Read Our Favorite Books as Kids,

Heresy!
But you’re right. I try to re-read the Dark is Rising at Christmas every year but it’s hard. Looking froward to having a kid someday to read them to so maybe I can get some magic back into them (and also show off that I still have the opening poem memorized 20+ years later.)

Even as a teen, I always thought Brite had an amazing imagination but no real ability to write. Like take the story concept and give it to someone else to craft (ala VC Andrews except not dead and all.)

I just c+p’d your last paragraph because it’s brilliant and I need to be able to find it again when I take deeeeeeeeeeeeeep breaths while wedding planning.

Mint is absolutely the best. I have 8 tubes in my house currently.

I really wish there was a massive novelization of the entire show; I feel like there is a ton of detail I missed somehow by binge watching.
Also a close 3rd person perspective from Walter and September would be fun.

Buzzfeed is reporting today that Luke Grimes (original James) left the show because he didn't want to "play gay" this season for Lafayette. Which is ridiculous. It's LALA.

I've been waiting for the dead baby army since the first episode!

You just sent me down an internet spiral to make sure I wasn't losing my mind but yes, Blue Man Group were around then. They're referenced in the episode but all in white.
There are a ton of pop culture references in the show — Lena Lurner instead of Tina Turner is a occasional character, the Jem Jam stands in for

That episode was the tits primarily because the Blue Man Group were in it. I don't think there was much direct murder on the show... they seemed to just forgive the director if memory serves.

Now playing

This is my #1 all time favorite Jem song.

Chekov's golem :)
You could argue that the going crazy occurred during the fight outside the dance hall and then final showdown but I agree. I expected a little more to make the redemption more satisfactory.

This comment. Thank you.
I've seen every episode of SVU at least 3 times. If there is an article about sexual abuse or rape, I'm going to read it. It's one of the only places I can process what happened to me as kid as an external story and not a nightmare. For some of us, this kind of storytelling is a catharsis and

I saw Tura Satana speak a few years before she died at a Midnight Mass screening of this film in San Francisco. She was a fucking awesome lady — secretly engaged to Elvis (she showed us her ring), a martial artist, a great sense of humor about herself an her work.
